About this deal

The mainboard is a MKS Gen L running TMC2100 motor drivers. I don’t think the drivers are genuine, but I can’t say I had any issues with them. No overheating and no lost steps. 2. Heatbed

Lead screws are kept in sync by the belt in the top, which is nice to see. On my Creality CR 10S PRO, the main issue i had was with bed leveling. Because of the weight of the X assembly, the lead screws would get out of sync causing fist layer issues. I prepared a G-Code file that can be printed directly from the Sidewinder X1. The temperature will change gradually from 180C to 220C. The 24V fans are nice and quiet. The circuit boards/boards, in conjunction with the ribbon cables, ensure a very tidy cable management. The ribbon cable is only plugged in. Not quite optimal with thousands of movements. A Titan Aero clone with a pancake motor powering it, and a Volcano style hotend melts plastic for the Artillery X1. The loudest components on the X1 are actually only the X and extruder stepper; they move very fast! The board/cables were not stained with hot glue The stepper drivers of the SWX1 are plugged in.

As the successor to the world-renowned Sidewinder X1, the Sidewinder X2 from Artillery is characterised by new features and smart developments.

The Sidewinder X1 is also much different from competitors in terms of the use of ribbon cables. From a design perspective, this 3D printer moves to the top of the list. Other budget desktop printers have huge, mangled messes of cabling, but this one offers neatly arranged ribbon cables instead. Unfortunately, I was not able to test the cooling performance of this setup because I can’t fit the thermal probe trough the filament path as with other setups. But my “ Finger-O-Meter” tells me that it works well. The radiator is just a bit hot to the touch which means the cooling works well. Most of my recommendations and calibration tips involve modifying values in the EEPROM. Unfortunately, the Sidewinder X1 arrived with EEPROM disabled and this makes things a bit harder to setting the machine properly. If you are interested in the difference between Klipper v0.9.x and v0.10.0 -> see: https://github.com/tispokes/Clanks-Klipper-Configs/commit/334f693c54555fcc70fdc5e86cf304bbb6e66e51printers are good for all kinds of projects. They’re great for small businesses to create prototypes or for large businesses to manufacture objects. They’re also great learning tools for small children as well as students of all ages. The BMG Wind will be my go-to direct drive extruder upgrade for any printer in the future because of the reduced weight, compact design and improved performance compared to other setups. The current firmware is currently outdated. Please use Digant’s firmware. He maintains it better than me and he also added a lot more functionality to the touchscreen. Why should you upgrade to Marlin 2.0.5.3? In the front left of the base, the color touchscreen resides, and on top the SD card and USB outlet.

Now that you calibrated your Sidewinder X1, you may want to look for upgrades you can do to it. I put together an article with the upgrades I did to mine. Spicy detail about at AC wiring: This pin down here is exposed live voltage whenever you switch the printer “off”. Considering that the frame of the printer is not properly grounded, that does become a rather “juicy” detail. The Sidewinder X1 takes its design cues from the Creality CR-10, so it’s pretty comparable in terms of not only design but price and functionality. The print volume is identical but Creality offers other models with even bigger print volumes whereas Artillery doesn’t. There is a bit more curling visible than I’d like and on prints where you can see it, it looks like either the filament pulling up on the toolhead, the motion system having some inaccuracies or the spool mount up that likes to wobble the entire frame is still causing some imperfections. It’s recommended to perform a PID tune to make sure the temperatures are stable. You can follow PID Tuning Guide to do this. For Bountech LGX mosquito configuration use the new adapter together with the BMG-M mosquito version.

printer manufacturers are upping their game with their new releases. In fact, with a little tuning, almost every 3D printer can achieve good results. Every manufacturer tries to incorporate what is already available in 3D printers that are on the market in their own machines. As a result, the differences between new 3D printers are relatively small. Wondering whether you should get the Artillery Sidewinder 3D printer? In this Artillery Sidewinder X1 review, we go through what you should expect in terms of features, price, performance and quality of prints delivered by the machine.

Bottom Line

The added length of the nozzle can melt filament better, so you may be surprised that your filament can print better if you lower the temperature a bit.
