It's partly David Attenborough's work biography, which for someone that has watched as much of his work as I have is fascinating. It’s not all doom and gloom as he also lays out very achievable ways we can start to reverse course if we act now. Considering that he is over 90 years old, he got a good look at a number of really important events in our recent history (from World War 2 and humans landing on the Moon to the Chernobyl disaster and more). He proposes that bringing countries out of poverty, providing universal healthcare and improving girls' education would make the growing human population stabilise sooner and at a lower level.

We all know about the ongoing climate debate and, like the author, some of us are willing to accept the indisputable evidence that climate change is seriously affecting our planet.

An intimate, urgent and impassioned book borne out of a lifetime's experience and knowledge, it will also present his view on the future that lies ahead if we continue as we are, and a plan for how to avoid that future.

I'm not one to listen to hysterical people and despise how so many only want attention or money while being entirely hypocritical. That disaster is being brought about by the very things that allow us to live our comfortable lives. Following that are 4 more chapters, chronicling stops in 1978 when he produced Life on Earth, 1989, 1997 and 2011 when he produced Frozen Planet. This advice comes from someone who has spent a lifetime in nature and is dreadfully worried about the consequences. This is a great book I thoroughly enjoyed by a man I have the utmost respect for since I grew up watching his programs and learning a lot about the natural world. He is exploring the various threats imposed by humans on our planet that is affecting its biodiversity.

He was Controller of BBC2 (1965-68), during which time he introduced colour television to Britain, then Director of Programmes for the BBC (1969-1972). It's not great news and work needs to be done to safeguard the future of our loved ones and the planet itself. A Life in our Planet is extremely well written and presented in a way that clearly outlines what is happening and why it is so catastrophic. In part two, Attenborough outlines the cascading catastrophe that could unfold in the next 80 years if decisive action is not taken.

So I hope humanity can get a grip and remember that if nothing else, it’ll save a lot of money (no matter how expensive some conservation efforts might seem at first glance) and it’d serve us well if we protected the very planet that is feeding us. Areas of the Arctic or Antarctic were different to what the filming crew expected due to ice caps melting.
