Many have found that the use of the CD whilst travelling to or from work by car can be very helpful. The first time I saw Christmas Voices, with its rich red, green and gold Christmassy cover, I wanted desperately to see what was inside. Blending prayer and praise and building upon the ancient wisdom of traditional Celtic Christianity, this prayer book is extraordinarily fresh. Both volumes of Celtic Daily Prayer are a complex mixture of writing original to Northumbria Community, along with some third party and out-of-copyright material, and so we thought it would help to offer some guidelines to simplify the process of seeking permission to use the material they contain. For this reason it is short, and can be prayed in the time it takes to boil a kettle, especially if committed to memory.

Here you will find a list of Saints and Holy Days with brief biographies and references to the other sections of the book for suggested scripture readings. The Advent antiphons are appropriately included, and the twelve days of Christmas covered, taking us to Epiphany and onward to Candlemas. If you wish to use part, or all, of our Daily Office (Morning, Midday or Evening Prayer) in public worship for a one-off event, you may reproduce the words in a service sheet, or in a PowerPoint presentation, providing they are not being sold. As a companion for the journey this book offers meditations for the events of life, and liturgies for its seasons. Some find it helpful to make a point of saying it whilst moving around (whilst preparing lunch for instance) as a reminder to pray as we work and work as we pray. Sometimes I might forget about this book for a short while, but when I go back to it, it is a whole new life and a bright treasure chest all over again! Just as well as we anticipate it becoming as much a part of our journey, alone and together, as its treasured elder sibling! It will be with me during Advent, enabling me to stop and consider during the time of preparation for Christmas.

Will we take the manifesto of Jesus – love for absolutely everyone – out into the world, and play our part in establishing God’s kingdom? As a result, they are very precious to us and we ask that anyone making use of them does so with respect. The Ancient Paths of Northumbria in northeastern England have been trod by generations of men and women who loved God and followed Jesus, bringing faith, hope, and love to vast numbers of people. Although there are a few good modern Christmas songs, lots of the familiar carols carry such beautiful truth filled messages. The author's engaging facing-page commentary explores how faithful Christians and spiritual seekers use the writings of this lively tradition as ways of embodying and living the gospel. The Community also uses a quarterly Prayer Guide (contact Ellen or Charlotte in the Community Office). It contains a further two years of daily readings together with a new set of meditations for each day of the month plus prayers and liturgies that speak into real life as we have experienced it.

Saint’s Day February 1st: Brigid (450-523)Eight years before the death of Patrick (see March 17th), a girl was born to a pagan Irish chieftain and a Christian slave woman from the land of the Picts. The book also contains a series of 31 Daily meditations, a Holy Communion service, a Family Shabbat, Rites of Passage, brief seasonal liturgies, and two series of Daily readings for the year. This collection of stories, meditations, poems and prayers evokes the authentic spirit of Celtic Christianity. This traditionally grounded yet surprisingly modem prayer book will enrich the spiritual life of readers for years to come.

If you are simply reading aloud from the books in a public context, such as a Church service, then no permission is needed unless a recording is being taken that will be broadcast or sold. This is a unique resource for personal and group devotions, both for daily use and on special occasions. The Saints range from the ancient and traditional, primarily Celtic, to 20th century figures such as Diterich Bonhoffer, Oscar Romero and Thomas Merton. He is also the founder of Waymark Ministries, which creates opportunities for people to engage with the Christian message. but for now I am content to keep the Hours, celebrate the Saints and their days, and enjoy the fellowship of like travelers who came for a momentary 'Poustinia' or Retreat. This compilation of said and sung liturgies makes the Northumbria Community's 'Daily Office available to a wide audience. Receive fresh inspiration from the beautiful music and soul-stirring prayers of the Celtic tradition. Morning, Midday and Evening Prayer and Complies with Meditations for the day and four years of Daily Readings from Books 1 and 2. The disruption of change, the mid-life doldrums and the bitter-sweetness of old age are given voice.
