The pair of Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 headphones sent to me for review was a brand new set, so I allowed them to run-in for around 48 hours before starting to make any notes and observations. You can adjust the Crusher sensory bass to how you like it, and with the app you can adjust the detail and percentage of the Crusher sensory bass through a simple yet really effective Equaliser. While there are a few issues that keep the headphones from completely crushing it, there’s enough to like about the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 for them to be worth your time. While you have all the basic controls at your fingertips, you can further tweak the functions they perform in the Skull iQ companion app.

Yes, it’s impressive and the insane vibrations do make you go “ooft”, but for when you actually want to listen to your music, I found anywhere between level two to five – at a maximum – did enough to improve my enjoyment. Video games and blockbusters also benefit from enriched audio experience and bags of added character with the Crusher ANC. Selected lines only, determined by size, weight or whether delivered direct from one of our suppliers. Get ready to experience the patented, skull-thumping power of Crusher Sensory Bass - now combined with the ultimate audio customisation of Personal Sound. What some say it lacks in the looks department, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless makes up for across sound, noise-cancellation and battery life. While an equalizer and sound personalization are both useful features, adding in the Crusher mode essentially stratifies your control over the sound to different locations with labels that are too vague. Battery life is rated for up to 24 hours but we saw closer to 20 with Sensory Bass set to 25% and ANC on. But if you just want to feel vibrations in your brain, nothing we've tested in recent memory comes close to these crushing cans from Skullcandy.

I’ve been using the headphones for a couple of weeks now, on and off, and have only managed to get the battery down to 70%. They’re easy to identify without looking, since the central play/pause button is concave and the other two each have a unique protrusion to feel. You can also repeat this when powered on by pressing the orange button for 1 second instead, but it’s easier to turn off the headphones instead of accidentally. In terms of control, this model has a multifunction button on the left side of the handset, which controls the pairing, battery check and active noise cancelling, as well as switching on/off. Under the lid it continues to convince with a dark grey fabric case serving as a safe home for the foldable headphones, accompanying mini jack and USB charging cable. Crusher ANC 2 is the headphone with absolutely everything — Personal Sound and Skull-iQ plus a blend of adjustable 4-mic digital ANC and Crusher Bass that’s so perfect, we had it patented. To ensure the battery stays charged, make sure you turn off the headphones when not in use because there’s no power-saving mode.

Both the active noise cancellation and the “Stay Aware” transparency modes have a strength slider that you can play with to find the right level for you. I like this level of customization, especially because you can reset everything to the default layout with a single press. The only feature I feel is missing is wear detection, which would pause playback when you take the headphones off your head.

As far as these nuisances are concerned, one can only hope that the manufacturers will make good in the future and rectify them with firmware updates. An additional button next to those switches between the ANC On, ANC Off, and Stay Aware (transparency) modes. If you do manage to finally empty the battery, plugging it into USB-C power will get you four hours of playback from just 10 minutes of charging.

With both offering active noise cancelling, similar battery life and even Tile trackers inside, it's an easy choice. If they don’t, however, you might want to tread with caution, as the bass on offer does take center stage and can overshadow the rest of the frequencies if you turn it up to the maximum level. For testing, we left the bass boost feature on because it's one of the main selling points of the headphones. These established brands have a slight stronghold on the market and the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 sets out to disrupt this. However, if you're looking for a more substantial sound experience, personalized options, haptic feedback and some of the best sounding Skullcandy's we've tried, it's certainly worth taking a look at the Crusher ANC if you feel comfortable springing for the extra cost.

Tuning the treble and mids might prove somewhat tricky because, by default, you have variable volume at frequencies the equalizer can’t control individually. The greatly exaggerated bass frequencies don’t quite block out Thundercat’s and Kevin Parker’s vocals, but the details don’t quite make it through. I loaded up Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill and the iconic drum beat intro benefits from the extra low-end push in my opinion. Been using it for almost 10 hours give or take and it still says 50% as it was when I first took them off the box so I'm guessing they really go the 50 hours they advertising.
