Description

Successful management encourages and helps employees to develop these innate talents and to become even better at what – thanks to their natural inclinations – they’re already good at. The other possible questions on pay, benefit and such are not significant differentiators in workplace strength so they are not included in the core 12.

This means they aren’t afraid to defy conventional wisdom or standard advice when their team benefits. This is because each employee’s unique nature plays a crucial role in their individual job performance. This is much more efficient because it keeps you from having to create a training plan that you must enforce. When examining how to be a great manager, there are four standard guidelines that Buckingham and Coffman identified in a majority of rockstars. Instead of scrolling through your social media news feed, this is a much better way to spend your spare time in my opinion. The difference between the two lies in how inherent talents are executed, and often those talents are surprisingly similar.

We also participate in other affiliate programs, such as Blinkist, MindValley, Audible, Audiobooks, Reading. The conventional wisdom is that promotions are just part of the system, and are often seen as inevitable. The findings in this book would surprise many of us, who do self-development or others-development everyday. What would surprise you is that you'll find many myths that you used to think it is right, but it is not from the findings of Gallup.

The authors also did a really nice job explaining an alternate view of having to terminate employees. Their description of “conventional wisdom” (which they do quite correctly proceed to debunk) could not be further from reality. To be a great manager, you have to accept the truth that you can only be as successful as your team members. Instead of taking for granted the age-old adages of management, First, Break All the Rules examines the practices used by truly great managers. So much of the advice in the book may seem common sense if you have such talent (or if you have been exposed to so many bad bosses and managers you just know they should be doing the stuff in the book instead).
