However, the two become separated, and Enzo is tortured alongside the alchemist and his assistant, who dies after his arm is chopped off by one of Mater Lachrymarum's minions. In 1895, she founded the Tanz Akademie ("Dance Academy" in German), a school for dance and the occult sciences, in the Black Forest outside Freiburg, Germany. At this point, shooting was set to begin in late spring of the same year and was to be released between November 2006 and January 2007. Opening this ancient cask has unleashed The Mother of Tears (Mother Lachimarum), the demonic spirit of a long dead witch, upon the city--resulting in a wave of suicides and violent behavior. Although I’d read extremely mixed reviews, I was curious about this third film and eventually decided to take a look at it.

Much of which can be seen in some of his other later works such as Jennifer, Pelts, or even The Stendhal Syndrome.

It’s the kind of film that could only have come from the 2000s, when film censorship had relaxed a bit, but the puritanical panopticon of social media hadn’t quite fully established itself yet.

The Third Mother') is a 2007 supernatural horror film written and directed by Dario Argento, and starring Asia Argento, Daria Nicolodi, Moran Atias, Udo Kier and Coralina Cataldi-Tassoni.

I saw it as part of a double bill with the original "black Christmas" - which is a really hair-raising film - so I was not particularly impressed by "Suspiria".

Via Dei Bagni - the Abertny Foundation's Biblioteca Filosofica - when Sara ( Eleonora Giorgi) notices a strange sweet smell in the air. With help from the assistant curator, Sarah opens the box and finds the cloak, a dagger, and three statues representing the three witches. They include Mater Lachrymarum (Our Lady of Tears), Mater Suspiriorum (Our Lady of Sighs), and Mater Tenebrarum (Our Lady of Darkness). As her minions wreak havoc on the city above, Lachrymarum hides below ground in the catacombs of her Palazzo, regaining her strength. Even the end credits are gloriously edgy, with Dani Filth singing the vocals to Claudio Simonetti’s ending music whilst all sorts of gruesome medieval art scrolls beside the credits. Jim Ridley in The Village Voice felt the film was further evidence of the declining quality of a once great director's abilities, stating that "for people who revere the horror maestro's vital work—roughly the period between his debut, 1970's proto– De Palma giallo The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, and his 1990 segment of the anthology film Two Evil Eyes — it's painful to watch the Hieronymus Bosch of '70s horror sink this low.
