It would make a really amazing Corn ‘n’ Oil, or, as Trudiann said, it could be easily enjoyed with soda. I never liked Rum in my youth, but while working in Suriname, eastern seaboard of South America, I tried some from their local distillery and loved it. I'm a big rum fan and have gone through various bottles over the years, some costing 5x as much as this. The superbly rich and smooth Black Barrel is a unique, small batch, handcrafted rum created to commemorate the 310th anniversary of the Mount Gay Rum estate in Barbados, officially founded in 1703 but with roots extending back to the 16th century.

Only the finest sugar cane molasses and pure water that's filtered through the coral heart of the island of Barbados are selected. Ok, so brandy doesn't get much press either but brandy to me seems a bit of an elitist drink but it's still part of the big 5. The only Mount Gay rum finished in charred Bourbon oak barrels, Black Barrel is the full-bodied product of more than three centuries of Mount Gay craftsmanship, innovation and refinement.MG Eclipse, MG XO and MG Black Barrel all got a modern new look, with the last two having their recipes tweaked by the fairly new Mount Gay Master Blender – Trudiann Branker. Mount Gay Black Barrel is distilled in small batches using a special double-pot, single-column process. Although it is made from single column and double pot distilled rum, just like other Mount Gay rums, Black Barrel uses a higher proportion of double pot distillates. Mount Gay, Black Barrel Double Cask Rum, is matured in ex-american whiskey casks and finished in heavily charred ex-bourbon casks.

Definitely now one of my favourite rums, it’s not too sweet, being nicely balanced and smooth drinking. Molasses based, blend of column and pot still distillates with more pot still component than its predecessor and aged for a bit longer – the rum’s age ranging from 3 to 7 years old in the tropics in ex-American Whiskey casks. It turns up the initial profile a bit, it’s adding a layer of more floral/herbal notes and it balances the rum overall, but because of the lack of contrast, the spiciness of MGDCB doesn’t stand out as much. com shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages or expenses, including but not limited to lost profits or other economic or commercial losses. It’s also a quintessential Barbadian rum brand and, despite being owned by a big company such as Remy Cointreau, they are making rum using traditional practices.
