Child is tired of writing Reacher novels, he could have ended the series beautifully with this novel.

He is there to have dinner with a woman MP whom he talked with on the phone when he was trapped in a South Dakota blizzard in "61 Hours. Ultimately, it remains difficult to know exactly what Reacher feels about Susan, or how deeply; this is a characteristic of all the novels. His destination, the closest thing to a home he ever had: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th Military Police. Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.

This Jack Reacher novel continues the series of deceptively simple, well conceived and crafted, and satisfying novels. Rather peculiarly (but America may be different from the UK), no one seems actually to charge Reacher with the crime, though he is provided with a military lawyer to defend him. The storyline of “Never Go Back” pushes incredulity (even for a Reacher book), and the final dissolution of the plot is … well, lame. Janet Maslin, writing in The New York Times, stated that the book "may be the best desert island reading in the series. Tom Cruise is not someone that Reacher would even like, and if Tom Cruise really did read the books (and not a movie treatment), he would know that.

And, then, Tom Cruise got a notion in his head that HE was Jack Reacher, and bought up a bunch of movie rights. Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces--and makes him question who he is, what he's done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road. Reacher is finally in Virginia to meet Susan whom he met in 61 Hours, 14, and there have been three books in between 61 Hours and this one.

Earlier that same day, Reacher arrives at the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th Military Police, to meet with its commander, Major Susan Turner. The left-hand guy was all unstable and up on his heels and his center mass was open and unprotected.

They part ways, and Reacher drops his phone in the trash and walks to the nearest bus bench and sits down, alone. This should not be read if what you're looking for is an in-depth, psychological understanding into the human psyche delivered with beautiful literary prose. There was a low-pile carpet that after cleaning would dry in hours, so the room could rent again the same day. There were glimmers of hope, but in the end we're still left with Reacher on his own, kicking ass and righting all the world's wrongs.
