Description

Spider-Man's character is written well and you grow to care about Yu and his supporting characters as well.

It also doesn't require much prior knowledge about the characters only some basic stuff so it's new-reader friendly. With the premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in a couple of days, let’s review Yusuke Osawa’s Spider-Man: Fake Red. I was surprised by how the heartfelt nature of Spider-Man: Fake Red had really affected me by the conclusion, but I think it perfectly drove home that while our teen years can often be problematic, within us lies a certain quiet potential for achieving the unexpected or even heroic given the right circumstance. Still, with the real Spider-Man nowhere to be found, the city needs someone to save it… (simonandschuster, n,d).

The art style is phenomenal, especially on the few colour panels that are present, the one that made me stop and look at it for a while was towards the end with the black suit in the golden hue of a sunset lit church. But after donning the real Spider-Man's costume on a whim after mistaking it for discarded cosplay, he soon finds himself in over his head as he's wholly unprepared for what Spidey deals with on a regular basis. The characters are all well written, but I think the series deserves more volumes and a longer runtime would have also benefited the characters to develop deeper. An awkward teenager puts on Spider-Man’s suit, but quickly learns being a hero isn’t all photo ops and social media likes.

It's an interesting take on Spider-Man and even if Peter is almost absent from the book the story is interesting and engaging. He has never thought of himself as a hero until he finds Spider-man's costume and Spider-man is missing. She is afraid of what he might think of her being gay but of course he is totally cool with it, but still hurts a little since it was obvious he had a crush on her. stars, rounding down until I get my own physical copy of this so I can re-read again in print and see if it should be bumped up to the full five.Yusuke weaves a complicated web in which you have so many questions, you NEED to read the book until you find them out. In the opening pages Asian-American teenager Yu - a well-meaning but quiet loner-type who is an average student in New York City - finds a discarded Spider-Man suit (complete with the web-shooters) hidden in an alleyway near his school.
