About this deal

The Custodes have these two distinct groupings for their theology focused the Emperor. and spend countless hours studying, discussing and debating amongst themselves. They are the speculum certus and speculum obscurus. Amicable Exes: Jek and Tieron are on good terms after breaking off their romance in the second book. Insistent Terminology: Aleya prefers the term Anathema Psykana to Sisters of Silence, as she finds it more descriptive.

As always there is action in these books. It's all well written and doesn't go on for too long. I did like how the author chose not to show all the battles that happen in this book either as the characters weren't there. It added a certain mystery and added to the idea that some of the events in this book are beyond what Terra is ready for. A closer look at the Throne and Terra, what remains of the Earth we know. It explores a bit of the inner workings of the Adeptus Custodes, the layout of the Golden Throne and how it is maintained, and a walk through the life of a Sister of Silence. The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor's praetorian guard, the defenders of Terra and watchers over the Golden Throne. But when a threat arises, they and their Sisters of Silence allies may find themselves pressed almost beyond endurance… Grey Knights and Custodes fighting styles, although no doubt different are shown to be very compatible with each other and even mutually beneficially. Valerian compares it to "Angels fighting beside a Lion". Perhaps a little on the nose with the imagery, but I like it.

If you aren't familiar with the above events, you won't enjoy this book as much, although I think it'll still entertain (well worth becoming familiar with these events FYI). For anyone who is familiar, you will really enjoy this book. It has 3 perspectives. The key functionary who serves the high lords of Terra. A Sister of Silence (they hate that name), mostly abandoned by the Imperium and making her own way through a universe that hates her kinds. And a member of the Custodia Guard. Through the lenses of these three characters we get to experience what happened on Terra (and some parts elsewhere) when Cadia fell and the grim darkness of the far future got that bit much darker. Victory Through Intimidation: When riots come to the walls of the Imperial Palace, Valerian stops the Arbites forces from opening fire, and instead walks out among the mob. The common folks of the Imperium, suddenly confronted by a mythical being over three metres tall, clad in ornate gold armour and holding a giant spear, lets him locate and arrest their leader without any opposition. Tor Garadon: Hells, you are a child, Custodian. You have not been out in the void for too long. This war has created monsters, and not all are in the camps of the enemy. The Chessmaster: Valoris, Fadix and Guilliman orchestrated the events of The Regent's Shadow to get rid of the traitorous High Lords.

Sisters of Silence see Bloodthristers as grey, not red. Also they don't see all the warp fire and stuff going on, just a big and muscled giant with horns and an axe. Sisters of Silence see Daemons differently. Whilst normal people see them as staggeringly frightening and insidious, Sisters see them no more as just gross and dangerous. Like a snake in your bed, not to be messed with lightly but sill "normal". And that is all for now. I tried to get a bit of a mix of the important, the minor and the simply interesting. How you enjoyed!Action Girl: Tanau Aleya is an Anti-Magic-wielding demon slayer, as are her fellow Sisters of Silence. Q: Is Vaults of Terra: The Carrion Throne a one-off, or will we be seeing more with those characters?

Excellent novel giving a lot of insight into inner working of Empire of Terra, Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Silence. Custodes and Sisters, two sides of the same coin, trained to fight together against any foe but, following Horus Heresy, separated for thousands of years. Custodes stayed on Terra, living under shadow of their failure to keep the Emperor from harms way and Sisters scattered throughout the galaxy fighting the Chaos but almost got forgotten by the Empire. Q: What’s your process when Games Workshop add new lore to things you’ve written or are writing? For example, the major changes in the most recent edition of Warhammer 40,000. Two Lines, No Waiting: Three, technically; the chapters cycle between points of view of Tieron, Valerian and Aleya. In The Regent's Shadow, Tieron is replaced by Jek. We Have Become Complacent: Tieron admits eventually that the nobles of Terra have gotten so used to the fact that in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war, they have come to think of Great Offscreen War as natural part of the universe, and can't imagine it coming right to their doorstep. Almighty Janitor: The Chancellor of Senatorum Imperialis. On paper, their job is to make sure that all the actually-powerful High Lords meet together on the regular, and to handle the paperwork for said meetings. In practice, they not only have spies in almost every branch of the Palace, but they act as the liaisons and mediators between the Senatorum's various primadonnas, allowing them to influence the politics of the entire Imperium. The Les Imperalis is a law which, amongst other things, formally forces the Custodian Guard to remain on Terra and only the High Lords have theee power to revoke it (not incl. Primarchs and the Emperor) When battle is finally properly joined, it is in the height of the Blindness, with the Great Rift splitting the sky. The frenetic and hard-hitting battles follow some grisly cult scenes. Wraight carves the horror of the Warp onto the setting and inflicts it on his cast, giving us the same upheaval from multiple points of view. Karma Houdini: Not counting their losses in the battle with the Custodes, the Minotaurs are never punished for siding with Imperium Eterna, despite the fact that assaulting the Custodians would spell death for any other Chapter. Odd Friendship: Valerian considers his and Aleya's frienship to be this. He's an immortal Custodian thousands of years old, Brainwashed to have no strong emotions except absolute loyalty to the Emperor; she's a firebrand Sister of Silence whose nature as a blank means she has trouble with any interpersonal interactions. They make it work anyway.

We Are Not Going Through That Again: At the end of The Emperor's Legion, Guilliman offers Tieron the position of his personal remembrancer - basically, a biographer who'd go with him to observe the Indomitus Crusade - as a reward for his services. Tieron decides that he's had quite enough excitement in the past few months, thank you very much, and chooses to comfortably retire instead. The Heavy: In The Regent's Shadow, the Minotaurs are the most visible antagonist for most of the story. Villain with Good Publicity: Imperium Eterna's goal in The Regent's Shadow is to become this; by setting up and supporting the Splintered, they "prove" that the Reform Council is unable to keep the peace on Terra, while they swoop in and destroy them. Custodes, 4 Grey Knights and 4 Sisters of Silence are capable of killing a Bloodthirster, although not easily and not without casualties. It can take at least two years of wrangling for the Officio Assassinorum to get a warrant to use an Eversor Assassin.
